Grey Squirrel Nibbling Nuts

Apologies for posting another squirrel video, but I've just bought an external microphone with a windshield to try and cut down on wind-noise, which was marring some of my previous video efforts. Just trying it out with this little film:

By the way, is anyone else finding this blog slow to load, as someone has reported to me it's slow for him?

Tame Squirrel Eating Nuts

Another little film from Sunday. This Grey Squirrel hopped on the table beside me to help himself to some peanuts. Watch how he comes right up to the camera and evens climbs onto it at the end:

Just trying out the video function on my Olympus Pen compact camera again - this time with a Canon 70-200mm lens attached via an adaptor. Unfortunately, as I began filming yesterday, a park worker began using a leaf-blower nearby, which is the 'hoovering' noise you can hear in the background:

I was going to post a few photos as well, but I've come down with a nasty cold, so am off to bed with a hot lemon drink. See you (hopefully) in a few days!

Robin, Nuthatch, Grey Squirrel

Wow, a bit of sunshine today, so I headed down the park with my camera for an hour or so to see what I could see. 

I've seen two or three Jays there recently coming to peanuts thrown down for them, but either the weather was very dull or I didn't have my equipment with me. I was hoping to see them today, but there was no sign of them, so I had to make do with the usual cast of Blue, Great, and Coal Tits; Robins; Nuthatches; Chaffinches; Magpies; etc.

I put some food in a hole in this log, which soon drew down a Robin and a Nuthatch:

Unfortunately, they were soon chased off by one of the many local Grey Squirrels:

This cheeky so-and-so couldn't wait for me to throw down some nuts for him, and so climbed up onto the picnic table next to me to help himself to the food directly from source:



Sunshine At Last!

Went down to Singleton Park this afternoon, and the sun actually shone! Even some blue sky could be seen for a while, but it was still quite cold and windy. The Ring-necked Parakeet briefly appeared in the Ornamental Gardens again, but flew off before I could capture it on camera. Another bloke said he had also seen it flying around with crows. I was able to photograph this, one of numerous squirrels:

Brynmill Park was still full of Chiffchaffs and Willow Warblers,

and three or four Swallows graced us with their presence after a while. The local Mallard drakes looked resplendent in their breeding plumage:

All in all, a much nicer day than of late.
