Never heard anything like that before Jeremy. Only thing I can think of is it was trying to expel something? I've seen Robins do it before, (and other birds), it's as though they are vomiting something; usually seed or something undigestible.

Thanks for your comments. Keith, it did seem as if it was trying to get something out of its throat, although it didn't seem to affect its appetite!
