A few photos from my recent trip to Skomer Island:
The one picture I didn't get was the classic shot of a bird with sandeels in its mouth, as any Puffins landing with fish would disappear hurriedly down their burrows to escape the predatory gulls and to feed their young.
Something to try for on my next visit!
These are absolutely wonderful, I have always been fascinated by puffins but have never got a good picture of them. Would I be able to get permission from you to use these images to do a painting?
ReplyDeleteHi Gillian. Thanks for asking and yes you can! I have a lovely painting on my wall of the Puffins in this area by a local artist called David Miller. Would love to see how your painting compares! Post it on your blog when you're done!
ReplyDeleteWhat a breathtaking photo's Jeremy.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend.
nice bird with lovely colors...Fantastic pictures Jeremy..... my compliments for this serie!!!
ReplyDeleteWish you a nice weekend,

Brilliant photographs, it makes me jealous. My favourite. Next year, I am going to Shetland Isles, which has a load of them, I hope.
ReplyDeleteSome super images there Jeremy love the last one leaning heads. Thanks for Skomer advice. With regards the Cornish Choughs 3 wild birds appeared in 2001 and two became a pair at the Lizard and are still breeding there so have to be about 13 years old now. Heard various reports they may have come fron Britany, Wales or Ireland. All young have been ringed since and with this years young [16] from 5 nests there are about 30 in Cornwall now. Mortality rates for young are very high with only about 10 percent surviving so fingers crossed for this years crop.
ReplyDeleteStunning photos and birds!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.

ReplyDeleteA case of 'saw this' and thought you might like to see it too ... a puffin in profile, with tongue.
ReplyDeleteHi Jeremy,
ReplyDeleteI am really very impressed by the pictures of the puffins! What a wonderful series. The color is really beautiful and the bird stands her sharply. My favorites are photo 8 and photo 13. Big compliments.
Greetings, Helma
OT This morning I had seen your video of the little foxes, it did not respond. Also I loved that video. It's the waiting and the cold worthwhile. Compliments :-)
A fantastic series of this beautiful bird, Jeremy! Thank you so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteOh my Jeremy, how did I miss this series for 4 days, so glad I finally got here. I ADORE Puffins, I tell everyone, I would love seeing them, photographing them one day. These images are delightful, as well as magnificent. So glad that I arrived, even a little late~
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind comments. Anthony, just read this article which says the Cornish Choughs have come from Ireland: http://www.birdwatch.co.uk/channel/newsitem.asp?cate=__12352&c=11
